Arriving in Ketchikan –
A Clover Pass Resort representative will be there to escort you and your luggage to the resort. Because of the schedule for the local ferry to /from the airport you may have to wait a few minutes for the shuttle. You can call the resort to confirm our driver is on the way. Our local number is 907-247-2234. Our van is marked with an Alaska Sportfishing Expeditions triangle decal.
What to bring –
Our summer temperatures may seem chilly to you if you are from a warmer, drier climate. An early morning breeze on the ocean can be quite cool and uncomfortable if you are not properly dressed. We recommend the “layered” approach that allows you to add layers or take away layers as the temperature and wind change. More than anything we want you to be prepared and comfortable during your stay with us.
Waterproof footwear is highly recommended. Even on dry days, feet have a tendency to get wet in the boat. A light pair of rubber boots or waterproof hiking boots are adequate. An extra pair of tennis or deck shoes will be useful around the resort and on the dock.
We recommend good raingear to all of our guests. Because Ketchikan gets over 13 feet of rain a year it is likely it may rain while you are here. We do have a limited supply of raingear available for use at the resort but recommend that you bring your own to ensure the proper size and comfort ability. Our store also carries a limited selection of waterproof raingear for purchase. Waterproof gloves are recommended for our guests that are prone to cold hands.
You will need to bring your own personal toiletry items. If you happen to forget something the resort store carries a small selection of basic products. If you require medication please remember to have an adequate amount for your stay. While we are only 15 miles from Ketchikan we ask that our guests be aware of our remote location.
Many fishermen have their own secret success formula that requires certain bait or tackle. If you have such secrets, you may want to bring some of your own gear. The resort store also carries many popular brands of hooks, lures, flashers, hoochies and other fishing accessories. Basic tackle like salmon and halibut leaders and weights are provided as part of your fishing package.
Whatever you do, do not forget your cameras. This is your weapon against all those friends that don’t believe your fish stories. The store also carries a small selection disposable cameras should you forget or are a little nervous about your expensive camera being out in the boat with you.
Meals at Clover Pass Resort are served family-style in our dining room. Breakfast will be served before boats head out in the morning, lunch options include a sack lunch (for charters or self-guided anglers that want to stay out all day) or a hot lunch served in the dining room. Dinner time will be set to accommodate the amount of daylight, the tides, and, as much as possible, our guests’ general preference. Our guests have access to the dining room for snacks, sandwiches, and coffee etc. 24 hours a day. Make sure that you let us know of special dietary requirements before your arrival so that we can plan for great meals that meet your needs.
Clover Pass Resort has daily maid service that includes making the bed, emptying trash, and tidying up your room. Towels are changed as needed and linens are changed twice per week. Additional services are available upon request.
Clover Pass Resort offers a variety of services including skiff and boat rentals, freshwater and saltwater guided fishing, and excursions to various locations and activities around Ketchikan. Check with one of our staff if you aren’t sure about what is available as part of your package or if you would like to arrange for additional services.
As a leader in our industry, Clover Pass Resort insists that its guests adhere to all State and local fishing regulations. Although we are happy to provide current regulation information, full Southeast fishing regulations can be found online at http://www.sf.adfg.state.ak.us/Statewide/regulations/seregs.cfm. If you have any additional questions please give us a call. If we don’t know the answer we are happy to make a call to local law enforcement officers who are always willing to give us an accurate explanation.
Our staff will do its best to fillet, vacuum pack, freeze, and box your catch according to your directions and specifications. Our system is designed with multiple backups in place to ensure that you get the fish that you caught all the way back to your dinner table. If for some reason you think that we’ve made a mistake we ask that you immediately let us know so that we can investigate. Our dock staff is happy to provide suggestions on how best to have your catch prepared for maximum enjoyment!
Due to the rising costs of excess baggage and the hassle of handling boxes on the way home from a fishing trip, many of our customers have opted to have their catch sent express delivery to them once they return home. Although expensive, FedEx Overnight Delivery offers some added benefits including the ability to insure your catch, FedEx’s overnight delivery guarantee, and the ability to choose a delivery date and location that is convenient for you. FedEx rates run in the $2 to $3 per pound range, depending on the quantity shipped.
As many of our customers complete their trip and prepare to return home it is not uncommon for customers to request information on gratuities. Being part of the service and travel industry, gratuities are a common way of expressing appreciation for exceptional service. That being said, we strongly believe that gratuities are earned, not expected. Nothing short of a great experience should be worthy of a gratuity! Unless you stipulate otherwise, all gratuities are pooled and split amongst all of our team. We offer the following suggestions based on your experience at Clover Pass Resort:
